HOW IT WORKS

Chorus Studio houses 4 contemporary choirs that are the heart of our community. These choirs have performed sold-out shows at venues like the Vancouver Convention Centre, The York Theatre, The Cultch Historic Theatre, and even Lincoln Center in New York City.

Our performance choirs—YVR Pop Choir and B-Roll—have been featured in campaigns by major brands such as Disney, Uber, and TransLink, and have performed at high-profile events like the TED Conference.

But our choirs aren’t just about performing—they’re about learning and growing. We follow a set curriculum that blends creativity, fun, and structured vocal training. Our music directors are not only inspiring conductors, but also expert vocal educators who coach singers on technique, style, and performance. Every season includes targeted instruction in breath support, vowel shaping, tone, range, musicality, and expressive phrasing. We even kick off each year by filming a live music video with our house band to celebrate and track our progress.

No audition is required! All levels are welcome in all of our choirs—the only requirement is that you can sing on pitch. Whether you’re looking to have fun, build community, or seriously improve your singing, there’s a place for you here.

No matter which choir you choose, you’ll find that all of our groups are bursting with soul and flavour. All of our choirs are illuminated by Chorus Studio’s signature good vibes. Our members are supportive, encouraging, chill, and playful. We actively value diversity and inclusivity.

Chorus Studio is proudly owned and led by women of colour. Our community is truly diverse, with singers from all walks of life and plenty of BIPOC members bringing their unique voices, cultures, and stories to the music we make together. We strive to create a space where everyone feels welcome, represented, and celebrated.

The Chorus Studio choirs consist of singers who are also teachers, lawyers, students, actors, business owners, contractors, health care workers, and even first responders. Our youngest members are 16 years old; our eldest members are 70+. Predominantly, our adult choirs consist of 25 to 45-year-olds.

We welcome people from all the diverse communities in our beautiful city, including our thriving LGBTQIA2S+ community. Our facilities are accessible to persons with disabilities. Click here to learn more about accessibility at Chorus Studio.

We sing contemporary music exclusively. No classical arias or Gregorian Chants here--although if you choose to rock one at an Open Mic, we will gleefully support you!

The Chorus Studio choirs perform biannually at a minimum. These performance opportunities range from live music video shoots to outdoor gigs, theatre performances, and more. Our performance choirs, YVR Pop Choir and B-Roll, will occasionally perform at unique corporate events. Pacific Soul and Spotlight are community choirs that emphasize community building and in-studio curriculum.

Each choir follows a set curriculum that blends creativity, structured progress, and vocal development. Along with having fun every week, our rehearsals include targeted vocal coaching in breath technique, resonance, vowel shaping, singing with strength and ease, range consistency, musical expression, and style. Singers learn to move and embody music, explore different vocal tones, and express their artistry with passion and emotion. Our directors are trained in The Connection Method, a functional vocal technique exclusive to Chorus Studio, and are dedicated to helping singers grow in both confidence and skill.

Each year kicks off with a professionally filmed live music video shoot with our house band—designed not just to document our community’s sound but to give members a powerful learning experience and a way to track their personal progress. Every June and December, we perform a weekend of concerts and donate 100% of the proceeds to local charities. Since 2017, we’ve raised over $100,000 for organizations including Action for Animals, VOKRA, and the BC Crisis Centre.
We meet all year long for weekly 2-hour rehearsals. Virtual options are available for members who cannot attend in person.

Choir memberships cost $140 per month.
Registrants are asked to opt in to auto-pay and enrolment for ease of administration. Memberships may be canceled at any time, provided a minimum of two weeks' notice is given. New members may register on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration priority is given to current members and alumni.
