Our Signature Method
A complete approach to voice training:
Technique. Artistry. Performance.
Most vocal studios focus on technique or style. Few develop both in a way that truly connects.
The Connection Method blends functional technique, expressive artistry, and confident performance into one clear, empowering approach.
Used across all our voice lessons, choir rehearsals, and workshops, this method helps you understand how your voice works, find your style, and perform with freedom and confidence, whether you’re a beginner or a pro.

A Better Way to Learn to Sing
Many methods focus on just one thing: technique (with rigid exercises) or style (with little structure).
The Connection Method is complete, practical, and designed to get results you can hear and feel.
Here’s how it works:
Functional Technique
You’ll learn how to balance breath, vocal registration, and resonance to unlock your full range and artistic potential in a safe, strong, and sustainable way.
Expressive Artistry
You’ll explore tone, storytelling, and phrasing. You'll learn how to shape your sound for emotional connection and musical authenticity.
Confident Performance
You’ll apply everything to music that you love.
We coach not just your voice, but your presence, mindset, and courage to be seen and heard.
Supportive Community
At Chorus Studio, you’ll grow alongside other singers by learning from each other, cheering each other on, and building meaningful connections.
Some students even start vocal groups or bands through friendships they form here.
"It’s rare to find a place where you can train like a pro and still feel totally at home. I’ve gone from shy beginner to performing at open mic!"
Richard M.
The 4 Pillars of
Functional Vocal Technique
At the heart of The Connection Method is a solid technical foundation. These four pillars give you the tools to sing the way you want to sound on demand, with consistency and control.
Before you can fully step into your artistry, style, or performance, your voice needs a foundation of strong technique.
With healthy breath support, smooth registration, precise pitch, and optimal resonance, you gain the freedom to express yourself fully, without limits.
Breath Management
Breath powers the voice. You’ll learn how to manage airflow and breath pressure to create a strong, steady tone without tension or fatigue.
Pitch & Registration
We help you access and balance your Chest, Middle (Mix), and Head Voice with clarity and ease so you can say goodbye to cracking, straining, or guessing.
Resonance
You'll learn how to project your voice by shaping your vocal tract for a tone that’s natural, vibrant, and sustainable.
Control & Maintenance
You’ll build vocal agility, dynamic control, and healthy habits that will let you sing across genres and keep your voice strong.
Your First Voice Lesson: What to Expect
New to voice lessons? Or coming back after a break?
Here’s what to expect at your first singing lesson at Chorus Studio in Vancouver or online.
In The Connection Method, each lesson follows a proven structure designed to help you grow. But it’s never one-size-fits-all. We adapt to your voice, your goals, and your pace.
You’ll leave each session with more confidence, stronger technique, and clear tools to keep improving.
Take a look at what a typical voice lesson looks like step by step:
We start with your story, vocal history, and goals so we can meet you exactly where you are and help you grow from there.
At every lesson, we do a quick check-in to make sure your voice is feeling strong, safe, and ready to sing. We address any tension, strain, or vocal fatigue upfront.
Through guided vocal exercises, your teacher listens closely to your voice, identifying strengths and imbalances with clarity and care.
You’ll also learn the basics of how your voice works: breath, phonation, and resonance. It's just enough science to empower you, not overwhelm you.
Love the nerdy, vocal science stuff? We’ll go deeper if you want to.
We use powerful vocal tools to build strength, flexibility, and consistency across your Chest, Middle (Mix), and Head Voice.
Expect targeted warm-ups, vowel shaping, and instantly effective vocal exercises.
After building balance through exercises, we will apply the work to a song you love.
You choose the repertoire, or we can recommend one for you.
We’ll shape tone, and develop your style and performance.
When you’re ready, we’ll teach microphone skills and get you singing into our state-of-the-art sound system to help build your confidence.
Have a last-minute audition? An upcoming performance? A voice that feels off today? No problem.
Our teachers are trained to be flexible. We’ll toss out our usual structure to focus on what matters most that day.
You’ll leave with recorded exercises, clear weekly goals, and a custom practice plan.
Whether you’ve got five minutes or fifty, you’ll know exactly what to work on and why it matters.

Voice Training Tools That Work
Learn to shape your voice with tools you’ll use for life.
At Chorus Studio, we’ll teach you how your voice works in a way that’s clear, simple, and tailored to you.
You’ll learn how to:
-
Move smoothly through Chest, Middle (Mix), and Head Voice
-
Sing with control, flexibility, and emotional depth
-
Troubleshoot vocal challenges as they come up
-
Practice effectively, even with a busy schedule
Our vocal toolbox includes powerful exercises, targeted techniques, and practical strategies that build lasting confidence.
You’ll walk away knowing how to control your voice, define your sound, and shape it exactly the way you want.
Your voice is your instrument and you only get one.
We teach you how to care for it with tools like straw phonation, lip trills, and gentle stretches.
Whether you’re recovering from illness, managing vocal fatigue, or navigating gender-affirming voice changes, we’ll help you stay healthy, strong, and connected to your sound.
Learn to move smoothly through Chest, Middle (Mix), and Head Voice with no cracking, flipping, or forcing.
Build a connected mix so you can sing with power, not strain, and flexibility, not weakness, while expanding your range and control.
We'll teach you ear training fundamentals like interval drills and the number system to sharpen tuning and control.
You’ll learn to match pitch like a pro — not just “good enough.”
Sing in tune, blend easily, and express yourself with precision in any musical context.
Vowels shape the space your voice resonates in. We'll show you how to shape your vocal tract to optimize resonance so you can project your voice in a healthy way.
You’ll also learn how to pronounce vowels and consonants clearly and stylistically, with articulation that fits the genre you love to sing.
Textures like bratty, dopey, and pouty help you shift vocal posture, rebalancing airflow, fold thickness, and larynx position without overthinking.
From there, we show you how to animate your tone with colour, attitude, or softness to match the emotion and style of the song.
Technique makes singing possible; musicality makes it unforgettable. We’ll help you shape phrasing, dynamics, vibrato, and tone to match the emotion of the song.
You’ll also explore how vocal style (pop, R&B, Broadway, etc.) strengthens both your artistry and technique.
"The Connection Method gave me tools I could actually use. I practiced in lessons, tried them at Singers Circle, and ended up performing a solo at the studio concert."
Katie S.

It’s our unique approach to voice training that blends vocal science, emotional expression, and hands-on experience.
You’ll build strong technique, explore your style, and grow as a confident, connected performer.
We don’t just tell you what to feel. We guide you through targeted exercises that help your voice find balance. Instead of relying on vague imagery or metaphors, we use functional tools that let you experience changes and describe them in your own words.
Most traditional lessons focus on technique alone. We build on that by helping you apply it through movement, musicality, and performance. That way, you don’t just sing well in lessons. You sound and feel confident wherever you go.
Not at all. The Connection Method supports singers at every level. Whether you’re just starting out or preparing for a professional gig, we will help you build effective, lasting vocal technique.
Yes, and more. We teach functional tools that are easy to understand and apply to songs you love, including breath management, pitch coordination, resonance, tone shaping, and vocal sustainability.
Songs you actually love. Our teachers specialize in pop, R&B, musical theatre, indie, country, rock, and even some heavy metal!
We’ll help you choose music that supports your vocal growth and reflects your style. When you’re excited about what you’re singing, you’re way more likely to practice and that’s where the real progress happens.
Absolutely. Many singers come to us after years of tension, burnout, or confusion about what “strength” actually means.
Singers strain because they mistake force for power, but real vocal strength is balanced, flexible, and free.
We don’t teach you to “push through.” We teach you how to sing with power and ease, so there’s nothing to endure. Just strong, sustainable singing that feels good.
Not when it’s taught properly. This is a common myth, especially in classical circles, but healthy pop technique is grounded in the same vocal science as classical training, just applied differently.
Pulling or straining happens when singers try to belt without understanding registration, breath support, or vocal acoustics. The Connection Method teaches you how to access strength without force, flexibility without weakness, and resonance without tension.
In fact, many classically trained singers come to us to undo unhealthy habits like overpressing or covering the voice. Our approach builds range, clarity, and stylistic freedom, all while protecting your vocal health.
Absolutely. The earlier children learn healthy vocal technique, the better. Our method teaches young singers how to use their voices safely and confidently, laying a solid foundation for a lifetime of singing.
It’s especially helpful for boys going through puberty, as it supports a smoother transition through the voice change by building awareness, flexibility, and control.
Whether your child wants to sing pop, Broadway, or just build confidence, this approach meets them where they are.
Yes! We welcome and support trans and gender-diverse singers at every stage of their vocal journey.
The Connection Method is flexible, science-based, and tailored to each singer’s goals, voice, and lived experience.
We even have a trans voice teacher on staff, Nova Lupton, who is passionate about gender-affirming vocal therapy and training.
Absolutely. The best match depends on your goals, voice type, and learning style, and sometimes it takes a bit of exploration.
