FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PRIVATE LESSONS

HOW DO I PAY FOR LESSONS?

Lesson fees must be fully prepaid in advance of the lessons.  We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express payments through our online booking system. If you prefer to pay for your lesson through Interac e-Transfer, please email us for more information.

DO YOU OFFER TRIAL LESSONS?

We do not offer trial lessons. Every lesson at Chorus Studio is customized to assess your unique instrument and provide you with the skills to enhance and reinforce balance in your singing or playing.

DO YOU TEACH YOUNG CHILDREN?

Absolutely! As long as they are able to stay focused for an entire session, we would love to teach your child. Parents are also welcome to stay throughout the lesson. We recommend starting with 30-minute lessons for younger children!

CANCELLATION AND ATTENDANCE

STUDENT CANCELLATION

Private lessons may be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours before the start of the lesson time.

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours before the start time will be charged at full rate, except in cases of extenuating circumstances that impact a student’s ability to attend their lesson.

Please email us if you are unable to attend your lesson due to extenuating circumstances. Bookings may also be officially rescheduled or cancelled via email.

TEACHER CANCELLATION

In the event that a teacher is away due to illness or emergency, your lesson will be rescheduled for a time that is convenient for both parties.

WEATHER CANCELLATION

The safety of our teachers and students is our primary concern. In the event of inclement weather, Chorus Studio will send out cancellation notifications via email and prepaid lessons will be applied as credit when lessons resume.

NOTE: The Weather Cancellation Policy applies to in-person sessions only.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

Lessons that fall on public holidays are not automatically cancelled. Prior notice will be given when the studio is closed due to a holiday or special event. Otherwise, please assume that lessons are scheduled as usual. If you wish to reschedule or cancel your lesson due to a holiday, please send an email in accordance with the Student Cancellation Policy.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I’M LATE FOR A LESSON?

Lessons begin right at the scheduled time. If you are late to your Zoom session, your lesson will still end at the scheduled time. This loss of time will not be made up at another time.

If you are on time but the previous lesson runs late, you will be given the full allotment of your lesson time.

TURN-AROUND TIME

All teaching time ends 5 minutes before the end of the session to allow for turn-around time between clients. An hour-long lesson consists of 55 minutes of teaching time and 5 minutes of turn-around time. A 30-minute lesson consists of 25 minutes of teaching time and 5 minutes of turn-around time.

CHOIR

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YVR POP CHOIR, B-ROLL, PACIFIC SOUL AND SPOTLIGHT?

YVR Pop Choir sings Pop, Indie and R&B; B-ROLL sings R&B, Pop and Gospel; Pacific Soul sings Motown, Soul and R&B; Spotlight sings Musical Theatre and Pop. YVR and B-Roll are directed by founder Rebecca Lam; Pacific Soul is directed by Richard Pinto; Spotlight is directed by Jared Suitor.

YVR Pop Choir and B-Roll are our performance choirs, often picking up extra gigs throughout the year (Granville Promenade, Ted Conference 2023, Surrey Tree Lighting Ceremony, Holiday Pop-Up on the Square at Van Art Gallery). They sing more difficult arrangements involving 4+ harmony parts and light choreography. Led by Rebecca Lam, our headlining choirs are performance-driven and musically challenging while still maintaining accessibility for singers of all levels. If you are dedicated, love to perform and enjoy a challenge, YVR Pop Choir and B-Roll may be a good fit!

Pacific Soul is our most beginner-friendly choir, with an emphasis on ease, education and community building. Directed by Richard Pinto, singers are met with gentle and encouraging leadership, effectively honing the skills of beginner to intermediate singers.

Spotlight is the most high-energy choir of the bunch! Upbeat pop and musical theatre classics rule here. Directed by Jared Suitor, Spotlight is dynamic in its leadership and membership. Theatre kids rejoice! This is a community that welcomes eclectic personalities.

ARE AUDITIONS REQUIRED TO JOIN THE CHOIR?

Yes! But don’t fret – the audition is simple and straightforward. No prior singing experience is required. Email us today to schedule an audition!

WHAT IS YOUR AGE REQUIREMENT?

All of our choirs accept members who are 16 years of age or older.

WHAT IF I HAVE TO MISS SOME REHEARSALS?

We understand that family, work, travel and other commitments are a part of life! All choir rehearsals have a virtual option for when members cannot be physically present at the studio. Rehearsals are also recorded and downloadable online for singers who cannot attend a rehearsal in person or virtually.
